The location chosen for this incentive was\u00a0Iceland and my assignment\u00a0was to develop a moving and enthralling musical dramaturgy, preferably coming entirely out of Icelanding culture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/harpa.is\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harpa<\/a>, the location for the ceremony evening, is a modern house for concerts and events, making it very easy to mix the most divers\u00a0music genres. In fact it is totally normal in Iceland that an orchestra musican, next to his classical job, plays in four completely different bands and, above all, initiates a festival for experimental electronic music.<\/p>\n<p>Already legendary is the joint concert in 2014 of the Viking-metal band\u00a0Sk\u00e1lm\u00f6ld together with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, an orchestra which was founded only\u00a0in 1950 by\u00a0J\u00f3n Leifs. Leifs was an Icelandic composer educated in Germany who tried later to connect the celtic origins of the folklore with Western art music. Leifs and\u00a0Sk\u00e1lm\u00f6ld are the ingredients for the fire dance above, opening the award ceremony.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mathis-nitschke.com\/wp18\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Rejkjavic-2016-09-18-20.21.24.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5357\" src=\"https:\/\/mathis-nitschke.com\/wp18\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Rejkjavic-2016-09-18-20.21.24-360x270.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mathis-nitschke.com\/wp18\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Rejkjavic-2016-09-18-20.21.24-360x270.jpg 360w, https:\/\/mathis-nitschke.com\/wp18\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Rejkjavic-2016-09-18-20.21.24-680x510.jpg 680w, https:\/\/mathis-nitschke.com\/wp18\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Rejkjavic-2016-09-18-20.21.24-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mathis-nitschke.com\/wp18\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Rejkjavic-2016-09-18-20.21.24-1140x855.jpg 1140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a>This crossover of high and low culture which is so uncomplicated in Iceland turned to be the defining point for the further musical development of the evening.
