A New Commission by Park Avenue Armory<\/em><\/p>\n In a rare solo performance,\u00a0Jonas Kaufmann<\/b>, \u201cthe world\u2019s greatest tenor\u201d (The Telegraph<\/i>, UK), takes on the Wade Thompson Drill Hall in a theatrical staging of Franz Schubert\u2019s\u00a0Schwanengesang<\/i>\u00a0(Swan Song<\/i>), directed by one of opera\u2019s most adventurous directors,\u00a0Claus Guth<\/b>, and designed by\u00a0Michael Levine<\/b>. Composed in 1828 in Schubert\u2019s final days,\u00a0Schwanengesang<\/i>\u00a0is a heart-melting collection of songs that portray a man in despair, delusion, and at times, in ecstasy. The production folds in additional Schubert repertory as well as sound compositions by Mathis Nitschke<\/strong>. Named for the ultimate song \u201cDer Doppelg\u00e4nger,\u201d this production stages songs with lyrics from poems by Ludwig Rellstab and Heinrich Heine, works that are the pinnacle of a vocalist\u2019s repertory.
