Since 2012, more than 100 school girls and boys from the 8th grade work together with dancers, musicians and choreographers, always on a specific subject like ‘borders’, ‘without you there is nothing’ of ‘On streets and squares’.

While doing this, they explore expressive possibilities with body, spirit and movement, and develop together a final choreography. Now for the fourth time, ‘Heinrich tanzt’ took place, in 2016 under the subject “distance proximity’.

The music approaches this subject with traditional music from the Balkan, mixed with David Bowie’s song ‘Heros’ which was recorded facing the Berlin wall. The Balkan is today used as a wall against the refugee streams. The irregular rhythms of its music are so alien to our German culture and yet, the Balkan is so close.

For the music I recorded the Macedonian multi-instrumentalist Dine Doneff.
